Which advantages does an APU have, compared to a conventional burning aggregate for power generation or air conditioning during the standing phases?

A separate APU for power generation works more efficiently than the carrier engine of a commercial vehicle. If the mostly high-capacity aggregate of a commercial vehicle idles in breaks, it only drives the generator, which then generates power, in the idling position. However, this charge state is absolutely not in accordance with the ideal efficiency factor of the engine. That means, that the consumption and consequently also the output of emissions is inadequately high. An APU, which is especially laid up for the requirement power generation, convinces with a considerably better efficiency factor and clearly lowers the energy and operating costs.

There are already solutions on the market, which use a Diesel-APU for power generation. They do not cross the efficiency factor of about 22 %, also when working more efficiently than a big engine of a commercial vehicle in stationary operation. Furthermore a Diesel-APU is everything but silent and emits a lot of carbon. With the fuel cell-APU an efficiency factor of 30 % shall be achieved at the same performance of about 3 kW - and this with extremely low exhaust gas emissions. In comparison to a Diesel-APU, they are up to 60 times lower or - like in the case of especially dangerous Diesel-particles - they are not detectable anymore.
